The cryogenic on-wafer prober at Fraunhofer IAF enables fully automatic characterizations of up to 25 whole 200-mm or 300-mm wafers with devices for quantum computing and sensing.

In the SPINS project, leading European research and technology organizations are collaborating with industry partners to develop semiconductor quantum circuits with a high Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and Technology Readiness Level (TRL). They will enable a lab-to-fab route involving Multi-Project-Wafers (MPW) using standardized quantum Process Design Kits (PDKs). The latter will be developed in collaboration with the leading European startups in semiconducting quantum technology (lead users) – acting as guardians for the PDK to ensure relevant technology being developed.

Fraunhofer IAF contributes its infrastructure and expertise in the field of low-temperature characterization. Statistical analysis of components via high-throughput measurements is crucial for defining and optimizing PDKs. The institute is helping to establish a wafer-level, high-volume measurement capability for various quantum device technologies in the cryogenic temperature range of a few kelvins.
