RoKoRa - Safe human-robot collaboration using high-resolution radar

Safe human-robot collaboration due to radar - RoKoRa

Based on its millimeter wave radar technology, Fraunhofer IAF develops components suitable for the integration into a higher-level safety system. Multiple radar sensors attached to a robotic arm monitor the environment, detect intrusions into the safety zone and permit situation-dependent reactions.

PROJECT TITLE

RoKoRa – Safe human-robot collaboration using high-resolution radar

PROJECT DURATION

2017 − 2020

FUNDING SOURCE

Federal Ministry of Education and Research

OBJECTIVES

  • Development of a highly reliable sensor system for collaboration monitoring and the determination of dynamic safety zones
  • Realization of a safe, distance-aware speed control for industrial robots
  • Dynamic adaptation of the robot motion to the obstacle situation, e.g. by giving way or using alternative routes
