Velektronik – Trustworthy Electronics

A networking platform for trustworthy electronics is being created for Germany within the framework of the research project "Velektronik".

Aim of the project is to create a platform for trustworthy electronics. The platform will focus on the technological overview, contributions to the necessary standardization, the network of research and industry as well as the actual know-how in order to provide concrete answers with solutions to the increasing demand for higher trustworthiness in electronics. A strong practical orientation is ensured via an industry advisory board, so that strong industrial relevance and acceptance are guaranteed for the project.

If successful, technological sovereignty over trustworthy electronics for German industry and the public sector will be improved by a significant step. The indirect goal of the project is to effectively support companies and ensure the supply of trustworthy electronics. Fraunhofer IAF is providing exemplary metamorphic HEMT and GaN IC technologies for this project. These enable the testing of counterfeit features and allow the production of ICs in small series with highest quality requirements.

OBJECTIVES

  • Enable concrete processes for the implementation of distributed manufacturing and thus make critical and non-critical manufacturing steps feasible by means of split manufacturing
  • Development of suitable split-manufacturing approaches, especially for mm-wave and THz applications
  • Incorporate, evaluate and test characteristics of authenticity of individual sub-steps & layout features in processes for their effectiveness to ensure trustworthiness
