Science Campus in Freiburg—Springboard for Women into Research

08/07/2023 / Young female talents visit five Fraunhofer institutes

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s “Science Campus” event series offers female students and graduates of STEM subjects an insight into applied research. On July 27 and 28, 2023, the Science Campus took place at the five Fraunhofer Institutes in Freiburg. Over the course of two days, participants were able to talk directly to scientists from a wide range of research fields and find out about career opportunities at Fraunhofer.

With the aim of increasing the number of women in science and supporting young talents in starting their careers, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft offers its Science Campus. The event series takes place at the various Fraunhofer locations throughout Germany and was held in Freiburg in July.

The Fraunhofer location Freiburg

With no less than five research institutes, the Freiburg location is one of the largest within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. During the two-day Science Campus, the participants were able to get to know the five Fraunhofer institutes and their different research focuses. With topics such as solar energy systems, aerospace, mechanics of materials, metrology as well as semiconductor and quantum technologies, exciting research areas were presented to the participants.

At the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF, the participants were able to round off the first day. At an in-house exhibition, current research highlights of the institute were presented, including the world’s most energy-efficient circuit topology for voltage converters, a quantum sensor measurement setup developed at the institute, and other exciting state-of-the-art technologies.
