Qu-Test — Testing and experimentation for quantum technologies

© AMIRES

In the European quantum industry, small and medium-sized enterprises do not have the necessary know-how, adequate test environments and standardized processes to carry out the entire quantum engineering cycle themselves. As a result, the competitiveness of the European quantum industry is limited and ensures an unsatisfactory time-to-market for quantum innovations.

For this reason, a network of testbeds for quantum technologies is to be realized in the Qu-Test project and made available to industry. This will give companies the opportunity to test use cases as well as concepts, devices and materials in the testbeds. The project goal is to accelerate the market introduction of industrial quantum innovations from Europe and to contribute to the establishment of a trusted supply chain thanks to the validation of partners and processes by the testbed as an independent third party.

The project work of Fraunhofer IAF includes experimental prototyping as well as the evaluation of chip-based III/V optoelectronic devices. Likewise, the researchers contribute to the project with the characterization of quantum sensors based on NV centers in diamond.

OBJECTIVES

  • To create an inclusive and federalized network of quantum technology testing and experimentation service providers answering the needs of the industry
  • To upgrade, upscale and integrate the testing and experimentation infrastructures and associated processes for quantum technologies
  • To set-up an open-access distributed testing and experimentation infrastructure to make quantum technology facilities and associated services available to clients in all 27 EU countries
  • To validate the relevance of the testbed service offering and robustness of the Single-Entry-Point processes through implementation of industrial use cases

Qu-Pilot project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe - The EU research & innovation programme.
