The project partners will develop an improved technology for the stand-off detection of explosive or hazardous materials using tunable quantum cascade lasers. The partners will combine advanced rapidly and broadly frequency agile quantum cascade laser source technology with compact, low cost imagers for applications in the field of civil security such as the identification of hazardous materials on location, for example to prevent terrorist attacks or investigate accidents in industrial facilities.

Project title CHEQUERS – Portable, multiband MIR-sensor platform for safety and security

  • M Squared Lasers Ltd
  • Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics CAP
  • Fraunhofer IPMS
  • Vigo
  • Bundeskriminalamt

Project manager Dr. Stefan Hugger
Goals
  • Development of man-portable or tripod mounted narrow-line hyperspectral imagers for longer-range, high spectral resolution, low noise sensing
  • Realisation of hand-held scanners for flexible industrial installation inspection and first responder threat assessment.
  • Development of tunable lasers in the spectral fingerprint region (7-11 µm) based on external cavity QCL (EC-QCL) technology.
