DiaMRI - Diamond tips as magnetic sensors

The market for data storage displays an annual increase of 110 – 120%. As a result of the rapidly growing storage density, the calibration of hard disks requires new approaches such as quantum sensors. By using NV-based magnetometry with nanoscale resolution NV-based magnetometric sensors will be developed in the project DiaMRI. They can be used in research and development of hard disks and their tests in production.

Project title DiaMRI – NMR at the nanoscale
Project duration 2016 − 2019
Funding source Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft
Project partners Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart
Project manager Dr. Christian Giese

Goals
  • Development of a quantum sensor with high magnetic field sensitivity, long coherence time and high resolution
  • Measurements of magnetic fields in the nT-range
