Shaping the 5th generation of mobile communication with Nokia
Along with our partners we will bridge the gap in mobile communication to reach data rates of up to 1 Gbit/s for cellphone users. While the beginning of the development was defined by data rates of kilobit/s and simple data communication via SMS, we are facing a strong growth in data rates. Thanks to a long-term cooperation with Nokia, the networks will be able to support the sending of videos for advanced smartphones in 2020 with an extremely low delay (latency). This short latency is a precondition for future applications in Industry 4.0, as it facilitates the direct communication between machines. In the EU project Flex5Gware we are cooperating with Nokia, Intel and Ericsson, to develop base station amplifiers covering the communication bands of 400 MHz up to at least 6 GHz.
»The use of GaN technology in new amplifier concepts will enable a significant reduction in CO2 generation and simplify the systems, while the data rates continue to grow exponentially to the benefit of the user.« Dieter Ferling, Nokia, Stuttgart
