From quantum sensors and 5G data transmission to events and awards

2018 was a complete success at Fraunhofer IAF. We have compiled a selection of memorable moments for you, and would also like to give you a small foretaste of the upcoming year 2019.

outstanding!

Our tiny diamond quantum sensor convinced the jury in the category »Knowledge Creates Health« and became one of 100 »Landmarks in the Land of Ideas« in 2018.

structured!

New deputy director and division director structures were introduced at Fraunhofer IAF. We interviewed the three colleagues taking over on the planned changes and goals for the coming years.

tiny!

Quantum technology is a major research topic at Fraunhofer IAF and our scientists will continue to work on several projects in this exciting field in 2019.

epitactic!

Representatives from science, research and industry came to Freiburg for this year's German MBE Workshop. The focus was on the complete spectrum of molecular beam epitaxy.

GeMiC!

Under the slogan"Riding the green waves" the Fraunhofer IAF organized the eleventh edition of the most important microwave conference in the German-speaking world.

analytic!

At the Analytica trade fair, Fraunhofer IAF presented its latest quantum cascade laser for real-time spectroscopy of solids and liquids.

transparent!

At the Hannover Messe 2018, Fraunhofer IAF researchers presented their latest W-band radar, which can »look« into sealed packaging in a production hall.

micro!

At the first Innovation Day 2018 of the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany, cooperation partners, industry and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research inaugurated the first line of integration.

award-winning!

The »MRS Materials Research Society« awarded Taro Yoshikawa with the prize for »Best Oral Presentation« at the Spring Meeting in Phoenix and at the IMWS-5G in Dublin Markus Weiß received the »Best Student Paper Award« for his research work.
