The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics is one of the few global research facilities which have mastered the entire spectrum of III/V semiconductors at the highest international level.
This includes a deep understanding of the basic physical properties of the materials, the ability to design innovative devices and circuits, the possibility of reproducing the necessary layer structures with atomic precision, the subsequent processing and building up of modules and systems, and finally, the entire measuring technology to characterize and optimize the components.
Fraunhofer IAF uses its core competencies to produce state-of-the-art electronic and optical devices, circuits and modules. We are capable of supplying both national and international cooperation partners with up-to-date modules and systems either as individual components or in small numbers.
The business units are named after their main areas of research:
- Millimeter-Wave Circuits
- Gallium Nitride High-Frequency Power Electronics
- Infrared Detectors
- Semiconductor Lasers and Light-Emitting Diodes
- Micro- and Nano-Sensors
These business units are based on the following core competencies:
- Design
[Electronic and optoelectronic devices and circuits] - Semiconductor Materials
[Epitaxy of heterostructures based on III-V semiconductor materials] - Technology
[Processing of micro- and nanostructured devices and circuits] - Analysis and Instrumentation
[Characterization and optimization of high frequency and high performance modules] - Devices and Circuits
[LEDs, lasers, sensors, transistors and integrated circuits made of III-V semiconductors] - Modules and Systems
[Infrared detectors, laser systems, high frequency amplifiers and radar systems]
